Here are a set of simple, free and easy to follow steps that help you avoid spyware and other security threats and keep you and your PC safe:

  1. Always make sure that your PC has up to date firewall and virus protection software installed and working.
  2. Ensure you check for and install the latest patches and updates for your version of Windows. This ensures well known “holes” that hackers or spyware can use to infect your system and closed.
  3. Make sure your web browser software is updated with the latest patches - no matter which one you use.
  4. Make sure that you have adjusted your web browser security settings to prevent malicious software or websites from attacking your system. This is easy to do and all browser vendors offer easy to follow steps on how to do this.
  5. If you visit adult, warez or P2P sites, be careful what you click on. If popups appear, close them with the “X” in the top-right corner and don’t click any buttons in the popups.
  6. Lastly, make sure you have some form of AntiSpyware tool installed - there is no point having just firewall and virus tools, you need all three!
